I have been coaching for 7 years, and some days I’m still gripped by the belief that I need to be perfect in order to coach others. But sometimes the best coaches are the ones who have deeply struggled with how gripped we can get by our minds and our emotions. We’ve had to learn how to go very slowly with these voices, how to actively discern between fear and truth, and how to unhook and unwind from these voices. Because the reality is, sometimes they have a whole life inside of us. And sometimes it's even unconscious. It can be quite something to notice the subtlety of these voices and programs, and to lean back into awareness in those moments, choosing to see and hear what’s true. So, to have a guide and support person in that process can be extremely helpful.

To really bring the detail and love of awareness to the complexity, and to understand the effect of how fear moves in our systems is a powerful thing. But often we will shut it down too soon, because of the voice of unworthiness. I should be past this, I should just be in a different place. But the reality is, many of us do get gripped (consciously or unconsciously) by fear voices, and we could use a little help understanding and navigating them.

So, I’m not perfect. In fact, on a daily basis, I move through a lot of fear. I’ve had to learn how to lean back, come back to the basics again and again, every morning. How to find the willingness to look at how loud and gripping the fear can be in my mind and in my body on a daily basis, and still practice. ‘It should be quieter by now if I’m coaching people in this.’ ‘This is a problem.’ But what I’ve learned again and again is that I have two choices. I can listen to the voice of the fear, which is always telling me some version of ‘give up,’ or I can slow down, look directly at it with awareness, which is a 360 view, see what it’s saying, see its effect on my body and my life, and choose to actively build the habit of putting my attention toward where life is moving. Some days I have to go so so slowly, and be so committed to that choice, and some days the momentum more naturally shows itself. But either way, I am actively part of the process.
